Documentary ‘Cena obraza’ explores the cost of whistleblowing in Serbia
The documentary film ‘Cena obraza’ (The Price of Honor), directed by Jovana Maletić, is set to premiere on TV Nova on October 17. The film explores the personal and professional consequences faced by individuals who choose to speak out against systemic injustices.
One central figure is Petar Vladetić, a special educator at the ‘Sremčica’ institution for children and youth. After raising concerns about inhumane conditions—including overcrowding, lack of staff, poor hygiene, and inadequate facilities—Vladetić faced multiple dismissals. Despite legal battles to be recognized as a whistleblower and regain his position, his struggle highlights the difficulties of protecting vulnerable populations.
The documentary also features Dr. Borko Josifovski, a former director of Belgrade’s Emergency Medical Service. Josifovski faced dismissal and public discredit after exposing a corrupt link between certain medical professionals and private funeral services. The film follows several individuals through years of legal battles, suspensions, and professional retaliation resulting from their decisions to challenge established systems.
