Documentary ‘Cuba after Castro’ presented in Washington, D.C

The documentary ‘Cuba after Castro’, directed by Abby Martin and Matt Belen, was recently presented in Washington, D.C. The film explores Cuba’s current social and political landscape through an interview with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, portraying a leader from the generation born after the Cuban Revolution.

During the screening at Busboys and Poets, Lianys Torres, the head of Cuba’s Mission to the United States, addressed the audience. She emphasized Cuba’s peaceful intentions, stating that the nation is not a threat to the United States. Torres highlighted Cuba’s history of international cooperation, specifically mentioning the deployment of medical professionals and teachers globally.

Torres also commented on the resilience of the Cuban people amidst the economic blockade imposed by the U.S. government. She asserted that the ‘future of Cuba belongs to Cubans’ and noted that the film aims to provide insight into a neighbor that many in the U.S. may not fully understand.
