Documentary ‘El Partido’ to premiere at London Film Festival

The documentary ‘El Partido’, directed by Juan Cabral and Santiago Franco, is set to have its European premiere at the London Film Festival on October 8, 2026. Based on the book by journalist Andrés Burgo, the film reconstructs the historic 1986 World Cup quarter-final match between Argentina and England in Mexico.

While the film centers on Diego Maradona’s iconic goals—the ‘Hand of God’ and the ‘Goal of the Century’—it uses the match as a lens to examine over two centuries of political, cultural, and social tensions between Argentina and the United Kingdom, including the 1982 Falklands War.

The production features testimonies from key figures involved in the match, including Gary Lineker, Jorge Valdano, Peter Shilton, Oscar Ruggeri, John Barnes, Ricardo Giusti, Julio Olarticoechea, and Jorge Burruchaga.
