Documentary ‘Los sueños que compartimos’ explores global environmental activism
The documentary ‘Los sueños que compartimos’ (The Dreams We Share), the debut feature by director Valentina Leduc, is premiering at the Cineteca Nacional. Filmed over three years alongside cinematographer Juan Carlos Rulfo, the film explores the global influence of the Zapatista movement and its resonance with various social and environmental resistance efforts.
The narrative follows a Zapatista delegation that traveled to Europe in 2021 and connects their journey to other international struggles. These include activists in Froxan, Galicia, fighting invasive eucalyptus trees, and protesters in Lutzerath, Germany, attempting to prevent forest destruction by an open-pit coal mine.
Additionally, the film documents local resistance in Puebla, Mexico, where the community of Santa María Zacatepec took action against the Bonafont company regarding water resources. The documentary, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2025 Morelia Film Festival, serves as a testimonial to ecological activism and the fight against resource exploitation.
