Documentary on actor Paco Rabal premieres for centenary

The documentary ‘200 vidas, Paco Rabal’, directed by Vanesa Benítez, is set to premiere in cinemas this Friday to mark the centenary of the actor's birth. The film moves away from conventional biography by using Rabal’s own voice, guided by personal recordings, writings, Super-8 home movies, and archival materials.

In addition to archival footage, the documentary features testimonies from family members, colleagues, and filmmakers. The narrative explores the man behind the iconic characters, tracing his career from humble beginnings as an electrician's assistant to international stardom through collaborations with legendary directors such as Luis Buñuel, Carlos Saura, and Arturo Ripstein.

Director Benítez noted that studying Rabal’s extensive body of work and personal archives provided a profound lesson in 20th-century cinema, highlighting his versatility in roles ranging from ‘Nazarín’ to his work with Antonioni.
