Documentary on food security released on Sesc Digital

The documentary ‘Não Existe Almoço Grátis’, directed by Marcos Nepomuceno and Pedro Charbel, is now available for free on the Sesc Digital platform. The film explores the challenges of accessing dignified food and the impact of hunger exacerbated by the lack of public policies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The narrative focuses on the solidarity kitchens organized by the Homeless Workers' Movement (MTST) across Brazil. In Brasília, the film follows three Black women—Bizza, Jurailde, and Socorro—who lead a community kitchen in the Sol Nascente favela. They are depicted preparing meals for hundreds of MTST activists arriving for the 2023 inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Through non-linear storytelling, the documentary highlights the personal struggles and resilience of the protagonists, serving as a critique of neoliberal ideals such as individualism and profit in the face of social inequality.
