Documentary ‘Rescue’ depicts Mediterranean migration crisis
The documentary ‘Rescue’, directed by Danish filmmaker and anthropologist Sine Plambech, explores the humanitarian crisis of migration in the Mediterranean Sea. The film follows the work of rescue teams, including the NGO Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres), as they assist individuals fleeing economic and political instability in an attempt to reach Europe.
A central narrative in the film follows Hani, a Yemeni man, as he reaches the Italian coast. The documentary captures a harrowing incident where Hani is rescued while his family is abducted by armed men in front of the camera. The film also incorporates cell phone footage from Hani’s wife, Roro, detailing the violence her family endured during their captivity.
‘Rescue’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled for its European premiere at the Zurich Film Festival.
