Dodecanese police demand urgent reinforcements amid staffing crisis

The Northern Dodecanese Police Officers' Union has issued an urgent plea for reinforcements to the B' Police Directorate of Dodecanese, describing the current situation as “dramatic.” In a letter addressed to Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis and Hellenic Police Chief Dimitrios Mallios, the union warned that officers protecting the nation's borders have exceeded the limits of human and professional endurance.

The Directorate, which covers eight remote islands and 16 different services, is facing a severe personnel shortage. According to the union, there are more than 130 organic vacancies, with over 110 of these affecting lower-ranking officers. This shortage has created a critical lack of frontline personnel. The union noted that during the 2024-2026 regular transfer period, more officers departed the region than were newly assigned, further straining the complex operational environment.
