Dodge discontinues Hornet R/T crossover after 14 months

Dodge has discontinued the Hornet R/T, a compact performance crossover, only 14 months after its debut. The decision follows disappointing sales figures, with fewer than 8,500 units sold across all trim levels through the first quarter of 2024.

The Hornet R/T, which featured a 288-horsepower turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain, struggled to find its market. Analysts suggest the model faced challenges due to its close resemblance to the Alfa Romeo Tonale, a shared platform that enthusiasts noted lacked the traditional V8 engine and rear-wheel-drive dynamics expected from the Dodge brand.

The cancellation comes amid broader restructuring efforts at Stellantis, as CEO Carlos Tavares manages challenges including high dealer inventories in North America.
