Dodge Charger sees solid‑state battery test and European market launch
Stellantis and Factorial Energy have fitted a Dodge Charger Daytona prototype with Factorial’s FEST solid‑state battery cells and begun on‑road testing in North America. The cells deliver 375 Wh/kg energy density, charge from 15 % to 90 % in 18 minutes and operate from –30 °C to 45 °C. Engineers created a new mechanical pack layout and updated the battery‑management system to accommodate the solid‑state format. Ned Curic, Stellantis’ chief engineering and technology officer, said the trial moves solid‑state batteries closer to customers, promising longer range, faster charging and lower costs.
At the same time, Dodge has opened European orders for a completely refreshed Charger line, marking the model’s 60th anniversary. The range includes an all‑electric Charger Daytona built on the STLA Large platform with a 100.5 kWh battery, all‑wheel drive and power outputs of 670 hp (Scat Pack) or 536 hp (R/T), accelerating 0‑96 km/h in 3.3 s and 3.8 s respectively. Features such as the PowerShot boost and a Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust aim to retain the muscle‑car feel. A conventional gasoline variant, the Charger SIXPACK, uses a 3‑liter twin‑turbo inline‑six delivering up to 550 hp. Both versions offer a digital 16‑inch instrument cluster, head‑up display, 360‑° camera and advanced driver‑assist systems. Orders are being taken through Dodge’s official European dealer network.
