Milorad Dodik announces new Republika Srpska Constitution and capital changes
Political developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina are intensifying following recent elections. Milorad Dodik, leader of the SNSD, has announced plans to proclaim a new Constitution for Republika Srpska, potentially as early as January 9. The proposed constitution aims to establish Banja Luka as the official capital and designate Pale as the capital city. Dodik stated the new framework is intended to be modern and respect the constitutional status of all peoples while preventing institutional abuses.
Simultaneously, Dodik has announced a reorganization of public administration to address staff surpluses and increase accountability. In the electoral sphere, preliminary results from the Central Election Commission (CIK) show Željka Cvijanović leading the race for the Serbian member of the Presidency of BiH with 306,074 votes. Additionally, the CIK has fined the SDA 4,500 KM for the misuse of children for political purposes.
Political tensions remain high regarding government formation. While some leaders suggest a coalition involving SNSD, HDZ, and SDA, others, such as SDP leader Nermin Nikšić, have denied rumors regarding the dissolution of the Trojka coalition. Elmedin Konaković has warned that any actions by Republika Srpska authorities that contradict the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina will face institutional responses.
