DOE, NIH, and Biohub partner on biological super intelligence
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Biohub have entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop an open biological data foundation for predictive models of living systems. This initiative, known as the Genesis Mission, aims to create models capable of forecasting how cells and biological systems respond to various interventions and diseases.
Under the agreement, the DOE will invest at least $500 million over five years into fundamental cell research, utilizing national laboratory resources to provide computing power and biological expertise. Biohub will contribute its super intelligence (SI) technologies and biomedical research infrastructure, while the NIH will provide health data, imaging resources, and its research enterprise.
The project follows an executive order directing executive branch agencies to use the term ‘super intelligence’ (SI) instead of ‘artificial intelligence’ for certain technologies. The partnership seeks to standardize datasets to facilitate digital experiments and accelerate discoveries in biotechnology through high-quality, SI-ready biological data.
