Dog burned in Armenia, Colombia sparks outrage

A man in Armenia, Quindío, Colombia allegedly doused a dog with a flammable liquid and set it on fire. The incident prompted immediate intervention by the Policía Nacional and the municipal animal‑welfare team Seres Sintientes, which provided veterinary care while the suspect was detained for judicial proceedings.

The animal‑rights group Fundación Tepa condemned the act, stating, “No es normal que un perro ladre y la respuesta sea hacerle daño. Lo que no es normal es responder con violencia,” and called for greater tolerance, empathy, and respect for sentient life.

Authorities emphasized that barking is a natural form of canine communication and that violence against animals is unacceptable.
