Dog euthanised after biting girl at Ballarat Bunnings store

A dog attacked a young girl at the Bunnings hardware store in Delacombe, a suburb of Ballarat, Victoria, on Wednesday at about 11:10 a.m. The child was bitten on her lower leg and required treatment from advanced‑life‑support paramedics before being taken to Ballarat Base Hospital in stable condition.

The dog’s owners voluntarily surrendered the animal, and the City of Ballarat authorised its euthanasia that afternoon. City of Ballarat Director of Development and Growth Natalie Robertson confirmed the investigation is ongoing and the council will cooperate with authorities. Bunnings released a statement expressing sympathy for the girl and her family and said it will support the relevant inquiries. A witness on a Bunnings complaints Facebook group described the incident as “very distressing,” noting the dog lunged from a trolley while the child’s parents were nearby.
