Dog rescue incidents reported in Brazil
Two separate incidents involving dogs in Brazil have drawn attention to animal safety and emergency responses.
In Brusque, a couple left their dog behind in their apartment to assist an elderly couple during a fire in a neighboring unit. The fire, which may have been caused by a clothes dryer, forced a partial evacuation of the building. Because the couple's door locked automatically during the emergency, firefighters had to break in to rescue the dog. Following the rescue, emergency personnel provided the elderly dog with oxygen as a precaution against smoke inhalation.
In a separate event in Rio de Janeiro, a dog became trapped on an air conditioning unit on the 10th floor of a building in the Flamengo neighborhood after escaping through a window. Local residents successfully rescued the animal before the Military Fire Brigade arrived on the scene. The incident has prompted reminders for pet owners to install protective screens on windows and balconies to prevent similar accidents.
