DogeOS launches public testnet for Dogecoin applications

DogeOS, an application layer developed by the MyDoge wallet team, launched a public testnet on September 30. The project aims to transform Dogecoin from a simple payment asset into a functional ecosystem by introducing Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility through a zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup architecture.

By operating as a separate layer, DogeOS intends to provide smart contract functionality without altering the Dogecoin base ledger. This allows developers to use familiar Ethereum tools to build decentralized applications (dApps) including lending protocols, perpetual exchanges, stablecoins, prediction markets, and gaming platforms. Several projects are already in development, such as Superposition Finance, Derps, USDoge, and Snag.

The project previously raised $6.9 million in May 2025, led by Polychain Capital. While the testnet allows for experimentation using test DOGE, no official date has been set for a mainnet launch. The launch has not significantly impacted Dogecoin's market price, which has recently traded near the $0.09 to $0.10 range.
