Dogliola commemorates Alpino Antonio Del Nero

The community of Dogliola held a ceremony on September 12 to commemorate Antonio Del Nero, a 19-year-old Alpino who died in 1972. Del Nero was killed by an avalanche during a winter training exercise in the mountains of Forni di Sopra, Udine.

During the incident, Del Nero was part of a marching column from the 22nd battery of the Belluno group, belonging to the 3rd Mountain Artillery Regiment of the Julia Brigade. While crossing the Forcella Scodavacca at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, an avalanche struck the column, making Del Nero the sole victim. His body was recovered three days later.

The commemoration was attended by his family, members of the Alpini, and local community representatives. Francesco Menna, the Mayor of Vasto and President of the Province of Chieti, attended the event, stating that “memory is a duty, especially when it speaks of young lives cut short and men who served our country.”
