Vari dog attacks lead to arrest of Stefanos Tsitsipas's aunt
Two large dogs belonging to the family of tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas attacked three people in the Vari and Voula areas of Greece on Thursday morning. The victims include a 76-year-old man, a 67-year-old woman, and a 57-year-old woman who required stitches at KAT hospital.
Authorities have arrested the 61-year-old aunt of Tsitsipas, who was reportedly responsible for the care of the animals. She faces charges of causing bodily harm through negligence. The mother of the tennis player is also being sought by police as a co-owner of one of the dogs. While the Tsitsipas family's legal representative denied the dogs belong to the athlete or his parents, claiming ownership lies with an individual named Irina Kitaeva, police investigations based on microchip records link the animals to the aunt and mother.
This incident follows a pattern of similar attacks involving the family's dogs, including a 2025 incident involving a 71-year-old and a 2023 incident involving a 13-year-old. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the animals escaped their enclosure.
