Doi Nang Non search: Two villagers rescued, one remains missing
Search and rescue operations are underway on the Doi Nang Non mountain range in Chiang Rai, Thailand, to locate three villagers who went missing while foraging for forest products on October 2, 2026.
Authorities have successfully located two of the three missing individuals: 57-year-old Boonchuay Chaihang and 32-year-old Saranyu. Both men were found in a coffee plantation located between Ban Pha Mi and Ban Pha Hi. While they are safe, both were reported to be exhausted and suffering from injuries, including wounds to the feet and legs from navigating the steep, limestone terrain. They have been transported to Mae Sai Hospital for medical attention.
One individual, 39-year-old Tanong Udyod, had previously been able to make brief contact via mobile phone, but the third person remains missing. Chiang Rai Governor Chuchip Pongchai and officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation are overseeing the mission. Search teams are utilizing drones and ground personnel to navigate the sharp cliffs and steep valleys to locate the final missing person.
