DOJ report reveals FBI assessments of parents following 2021 school board memo
A new report from the Department of Justice Weaponization Working Group reveals that the FBI opened 25 “Guardian assessments” involving parents following a 2021 memorandum issued by then-Attorney General Merrick Garland. The memorandum addressed threats against school officials, following a request from the National School Boards Association to treat certain parental behaviors as equivalent to domestic terrorism.
The report indicates that the Biden White House was involved in the effort to find federal grounds for prosecuting parents and protesters. One investigation was reportedly triggered by a tip regarding a mother’s membership in a “right-wing mom’s group.”
Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, expressed a sense of “vindication” regarding the findings. She stated that the DOJ and FBI actions caused parents to fear speaking publicly at school board meetings due to concerns over job security and government scrutiny.
