Danger Dan reveals struggle with progressive eye disease in new song

German musician Danger Dan, also known as Daniel Pongratz, has publicly shared his struggle with Retinitis pigmentosa, a rare hereditary eye disease that causes progressive vision loss and eventual blindness. The 43-year-old artist, a member of the rap group Antilopen Gang, released a new single titled ‘Dass es hier so schön ist’ to process his diagnosis, which he first received in his mid-twenties.

In his new music and accompanying newsletter, Danger Dan describes the emotional journey of accepting the condition and the impact on his life, including the inability to drive and navigating a world that is not barrier-free. He expressed hope that he will retain enough vision for ‘a few more years’ to continue playing the piano. The song serves as a precursor to his upcoming solo album, ‘Keine Angst’, scheduled for release on October 2, 2026.
