Dojran Lake pelican receives medical care after gunshot wound
A wounded pelican found near Dojran Lake in North Macedonia has received medical treatment and a designated area for recovery. The bird, which had been seen wandering alone for two weeks, was found to have a gunshot wound under its wing.
Veterinarian Risto Ichkov, working with the Food and Veterinary Agency and Dojran Mayor Ilija Tentov, examined the bird and confirmed that its wings and legs were not broken. The veterinarian cleaned the wound and administered antibiotics to the exhausted animal.
To support its recovery, local authorities and residents have secured a specific location on the lakeshore where the pelican will be provided with regular meals of fish. Local experts noted that these birds typically migrate between October and April, and weakened individuals often struggle to keep up with their flocks.
