Dok Brewing Company launches anti-racist dark beer

Dok Brewing Company, an artisanal brewery based in Ghent, Belgium, has released a new dark beer titled “Ik ben geen racist maar” (I am not a racist, but...). The American Porter style beer, which has an alcohol content of 6.8%, was created to use humor and irreverence to highlight the prejudices often hidden behind that specific phrase.

The label features Julie Omoregie, a Nigerian-born employee of the brewery, making a defiant gesture against discrimination. According to master brewer Janos De Baets, the initiative aims to draw attention to a common expression that frequently precedes discriminatory comments. The idea for the beer originated during a staff brainstorming session where Omoregie requested a beer be dedicated to her.
