Dolhasca house fire in Romania leaves 88‑year‑old unharmed

A fire broke out on the morning of 1 August 2026 in a residence in Dolhasca, Romania, after a candle was left burning on a small refrigerator. The blaze quickly engulfed two rooms covering about 30 m². The 88‑year‑old resident, Tudose Ileana, was rescued by her 30‑year‑old niece, who entered the home before the fire‑brigade arrived.

Firefighters from the ISU and a SMURD medical team extinguished the flames and provided first aid. No injuries were reported. Material damage was estimated at roughly 40 000 lei, affecting appliances, clothing, two doors and two double‑glazed windows. The adjacent dwelling and neighboring properties were not affected. Police opened a case for “distrugere din culpă” (culpable destruction) and the investigation is ongoing.
