Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards $4.1 million in national grants

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has announced a national initiative distributing more than $4.1 million in youth literacy grants. The funding is intended to support over 850 schools, libraries, and nonprofit organizations across the United States, with an estimated 545,000 students expected to benefit.

In Oregon, four organizations were selected for funding, including Philomath Elementary School, which received $3,936. Other Oregon recipients include Santiam Elementary School, Mt. Angel Middle School, and the Children’s Literacy Project, each receiving $5,000.

In Indiana, 31 organizations will receive grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. These funds are expected to reach more than 16,500 people across the state, benefiting communities from Lafayette to Indianapolis. Recipients include various elementary schools, high schools, and community centers, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington and the Hanna Community Center.

The grants can be utilized for professional development or the purchase of books, technology, equipment, and other essential learning materials for K-12 students.
