Dollar General reports Q2 profit surge and raises outlook

Dollar General and Dollar Tree are showing signs of recovery following recent fiscal reports. Dollar General reported a 33.8% surge in net income for the second quarter, reaching approximately $550.3 million. This growth was supported by a 5.2% increase in sales to $11.3 billion, driven by a 2% rise in customer traffic and a 1.5% increase in average basket size.

CEO Todd Vasos noted that a significant portion of tariff refunds received during the period was reinvested into targeted promotions and lower everyday prices. Due to this strong first-half performance, Dollar General raised its full-year sales growth outlook to a range of 4% to 4.3%, up from the previous projection of 3.7% to 4.2%.

While both retailers are positioned for potential value recovery, analysts note they are moving forward for different reasons. Institutional support remains high for both companies, with high levels of ownership by institutional investors.
