Dolly Parton: Artists recall legacy of support and work ethic

Following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton at age 80, fellow artists have shared personal memories of her mentorship and support.

Tanya Tucker recalled a piece of advice Parton gave her during the 2019 CMA Awards rehearsals, where Parton encouraged her to ‘make hay while the sun shines.’ Tucker noted that this sentiment reflected Parton’s own tireless work ethic across music and business. Tucker also remembered Parton’s supportive nature during their 1993 collaboration on the song ‘Romeo.’

Kelly Clarkson shared a memory of Parton providing comfort backstage at the 2022 ACM Awards. Clarkson revealed that the encounter occurred just 30 minutes after her divorce was finalized, noting that Parton’s words helped her stay grounded during a difficult personal period.
