Dolly Parton Broadway musical announces lead cast

The Broadway musical ‘Dolly: A True Original Musical’ has announced its principal cast and production details. The show, which celebrates the life and legacy of the late singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, is scheduled to begin preview performances on December 7 at the St. James Theatre, with an official opening night on January 19, 2027. This opening date coincides with what would have been Parton’s 81st birthday.

Katie Rose Clarke will reprise her role as Dolly Parton after starring in the production’s previous Nashville run. The musical features three different actresses to portray Parton at various stages of her life: Norah Nunes will play ‘Little Dolly’ during her Appalachian childhood, and Carrie St. Louis will portray the ambitious singer arriving in Nashville. John Behlmann will appear as Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, and Gabriel Ebert will play country music star Porter Wagoner.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, the production includes classic hits such as ‘I Will Always Love You,’ ‘Jolene,’ and ‘9 to 5,’ alongside new music written by Parton. The musical’s book was co-written by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter.
