Ricky Schroder sparks backlash with political Dolly Parton tribute

Following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton at age 80, actor Ricky Schroder has faced intense backlash for a social media tribute that included political criticisms. Schroder, who played Parton’s father in two biographical TV movies, posted on Instagram that he “didn’t agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support… but Loved her anyway.”

His comments drew sharp condemnation from fans and celebrities alike, including Boy George, Katie Couric, and the band Garbage, who described the post as insensitive, transphobic, and inappropriate for a memorial.

In contrast, other industry figures have shared heartfelt remembrances. Sylvester Stallone recalled their long history and her warmth on set, while Nicole Kidman described her as an “extraordinary light.” Sandra Bullock also paid tribute, reflecting on their bond during the filming of Miss Congeniality 2, where they famously shared experiences traveling by tour bus.
