Dolly Parton dies at 80 after a legendary music and business career
Country music icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton died on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80, following a brief battle with cancer. Her death was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who served as her head of security for over two decades.
Parton leaves behind a massive cultural and economic legacy. Over a six-decade career, she wrote an estimated 3,000 songs and sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Her business ventures, most notably the Dollywood theme park in Tennessee, transformed the economy of the Appalachian region.
Beyond music, Parton was a major humanitarian. Her Imagination Library, founded in 1995, provides free books to children under age five and currently assists approximately 3 million children each month. She was also recognized for her support of the LGBTQ+ community and her various philanthropic efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable populations.
