Dolly Parton estate enters legal battle with nephew over extortion claims

Following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton on August 25, 2026, a legal battle has emerged over her estimated $650 million estate. The dispute involves Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, who previously served as her head of security and was responsible for announcing her passing.

Estate management entities, including She’s Alive LLC and the DP Dean Trust Group, have filed a lawsuit against Seaver and his firm, Squadron Augmented Protection Services. The estate alleges that Seaver engaged in a ‘campaign of threats’ to ‘extract money’ and vowed to ‘destroy’ Parton’s legacy. A temporary restraining order has been granted against him.

Legal filings claim Seaver attempted to evade service of process by barricading his residence with barbed wire and yellow caution tape. A court hearing is scheduled for October 9, 2026, to address these allegations and the estate's request for a permanent injunction.

Separately, a posthumous musical project is set for release on October 9. The recording features a Welsh-language version of Parton’s hit ‘Jolene,’ recorded in early 2025 with contributions from her niece Jada Star and Welsh vocalist Bronwen Lewis.
