Dolly Parton leaves unreleased song in 2046 time capsule

Following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton at age 80, details have emerged regarding a final musical legacy left for future generations. Parton recorded an unreleased song titled ‘My Place in History’ in 2015, which is currently sealed inside a time capsule known as the ‘Dream Box’ at the Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa in Tennessee.

The capsule, crafted from chestnut wood as a tribute to her uncle Bill Owens, contains physical copies of the recording on both cassette and CD formats. To ensure the music can be played regardless of technological shifts, the capsule reportedly includes the necessary playback equipment. The instructions mandate that the box remains closed until January 19, 2046, marking the date Parton would have turned 100.

In addition to the time capsule, Parton’s legacy continues through the upcoming Broadway musical ‘Dolly: A True Original Musical’, which is scheduled for a pre-view in December 2026 and an official opening in January 2027. Her passing has prompted widespread tributes from global figures, including Donald Trump, who ordered flags to be flown at half-staff.
