Dolly Parton dies at 80 after battle with cancer
Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer. Her death was announced by her nephew and security chief, Bryan Seaver, who stated she passed away at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.
Parton leaves behind a massive musical legacy, including over 60 albums and hits such as ‘Jolene’, ‘9 to 5’, and ‘I Will Always Love You’. Following her passing, her 1974 classic ‘Jolene’ became the most-streamed song globally across Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes.
A secret final song titled ‘My Place in History’ remains unreleased. Recorded in 2015, the track is stored in a chestnut wood ‘Dream Box’ time capsule at the Dollywood DreamMore Resort and Spa in Tennessee. The capsule contains the song on CD and cassette, along with a letter and handwritten lyrics. It is scheduled to be opened on January 19, 2046, to coincide with what would have been Parton’s 100th birthday.
Her estate and management team are currently overseeing several posthumous projects, including a documentary, a biopic, and a digital avatar show.
