Dolly Parton offered to undergo experimental cancer drug trials to help others

Following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton at age 80, her sister Stella Parton revealed that the singer had expressed a willingness to undergo experimental medical treatments to benefit future patients. Stella stated that if there was “no hope” for her own recovery, Dolly would still allow her medical team to use her in experimental drug trials “in the hope of helping others in the future.”

Parton’s family confirmed she passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Throughout her life, the singer was noted for extensive philanthropic work, including the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library. In 2020, she donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University’s COVID-19 research, which aided in the development of the Moderna vaccine.
