Dolly Parton estate wins restraining order against nephew amid legal dispute

Following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton on August 25, 2026, her estate and family are facing legal and celebratory developments. In New York, officials have proclaimed September 25 as ‘Dolly Parton Appreciation Day’ to honor her musical and philanthropic legacy, specifically her Imagination Library literacy program. New York State has also allocated $1 million to support this initiative.

Simultaneously, a legal battle has emerged in Tennessee. She’s Alive, the entity managing Parton’s business interests, has obtained a temporary restraining order against her nephew, Bryan Seaver, and his security company, Squadron Augmented Protection Services. The estate accuses Seaver of an ‘obscene, deliberate and escalating campaign of threats’ intended to extort money and damage Parton’s business empire. Court filings allege Seaver used his military background and access to weapons to intimidate staff and lawyers. Seaver has denied the allegations, stating his communications were taken out of context during a period of grief.

While Parton’s sister, Freida Parton, has publicly stated there is ‘no feud’ within the family, the legal dispute over the management of the singer's extensive estate remains ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for October 7.
