Dolly Parton's legacy inspires discussion on women and faith

Following the death of Dolly Parton, a clergy conference of approximately 100 Anglican women held at St Peter’s Cathedral in Adelaide served as a backdrop for discussions regarding faith, gender, and authority.

The event highlighted the intersection of religion and feminism, contrasting Parton’s self-described mission to lift people up and glorify God with the concerns of feminists like Gloria Steinem, who have historically viewed religion as a tool for female oppression. The discussion noted that while Parton operated outside traditional church structures, she functioned as an influential faith leader through her messages of love and inclusion.
