Dolna Oryahovitsa hosts national walnut culinary and folklore festival

The fourth edition of the National Folklore and Culinary Competition, ‘Magic of the Walnut’, took place in Dolna Oryahovitsa, Bulgaria. The event featured over 20 culinary stalls and approximately 34 folklore performers and ensembles from various ethnographic regions across the country, including participants from Silistra, Shabla, Svilengrad, and Burgas.

All culinary entries centered on the walnut as a mandatory ingredient. Offerings ranged from traditional items like cakes, breads, and pastries to savory dishes such as fish stew, stuffed peppers, and green tomatoes. The selection also included beverages like liqueurs and spirits infused with roasted walnuts.

The culinary competition was judged by Denis Moreira (known as Denisinho) from the ‘Health Kitchen’ program and Ivaylo Ivanov. Meanwhile, the folklore performances were evaluated by a jury including Milen Ivanov, Polina Porumova, and Petar Georgiev. Local officials, including Mayor Vesko Iribadzhakov and Mayor Nikolay Rashkov, emphasized the event's role in preserving Bulgarian traditions and passing old recipes to future generations.
