Dolomites face overtourism pressure from South Korean travelers

The Dolomites are experiencing significant pressure from overtourism, driven largely by a surge in visitors from Southeast Asia, particularly South Korea. Tourism experts note that as traditional Italian destinations like Rome, Milan, and Venice reach saturation, South Korean travelers are seeking ‘hidden gems.’

This shift is fueled by Asian media, including television programs and web formats dedicated to the Dolomites, as well as social media competition among travelers to capture exclusive content in lesser-known locations. This trend is spreading tourist density to small mountain villages and previously less-traveled paths, creating congestion in areas like Val di Funes and Bolzano.
