Dolores Huerta Endorses Scott Wiener in California Congressional Race
Labor icon Dolores Huerta, co‑founder of the United Farm Workers, announced her endorsement of state Senator Scott Wiener for the House seat being vacated by Nancy Pelosi. In her statement Huerta praised Wiener for standing with workers, tenants, immigrant communities and families facing California’s affordability crisis. The endorsement surprised supporters of Connie Chan, the San Francisco supervisor viewed as the more pro‑labor candidate, who has gathered backing from over 40 unions and the United Farm Workers in her previous supervisor reelection. Chan’s campaign manager, Rudy Gonzalez, took a leave from leading local labor councils to run her congressional bid. Huerta’s sole endorsement of Wiener is considered a significant boost for his campaign and a setback for Chan, who continues to seek additional labor support.
