Dolores Vázquez honored in hometown of Betanzos

Dolores Vázquez Mosquera was honored with a public reception in her hometown of Betanzos during the San Roque patron saint festivities. Addressing a crowd in the Praza da Constitución, Vázquez delivered a speech emphasizing local traditions and the importance of women's roles in society.

The event serves as a symbolic closure to the legal ordeal surrounding the Wanninkhof case. Vázquez was wrongfully convicted in 2001 and spent 519 days in prison before the true perpetrator, Tony King, was identified. Despite her legal exoneration, she has faced ongoing challenges regarding financial compensation from the state. During her speech, she expressed her enduring connection to her roots in Galicia, noting that while she lived abroad for a time, she never lost her bond with Betanzos.
