Dolph Lundgren reveals cancer battle and thoughts of assisted dying

Actor Dolph Lundgren has revealed in his new memoir, ‘Fights Worth Fighting: Finding Strength in Struggle’, that he contemplated assisted dying during his decade-long battle with cancer. The 68-year-old Swedish actor shared that he and his brother, Johan, discussed the possibility of ending his life in a country like Switzerland, where legal suicide is permitted for the terminally ill, due to the physical toll of his treatments and a sense of hopelessness.

Lundgren’s health struggles began with a 2015 diagnosis of kidney cancer, which he was told had spread in 2020. However, a medical breakthrough occurred in 2022 after he met Dr. Alexandra Drakaki. Upon reviewing his samples and conducting new tests, Dr. Drakaki determined that Lundgren had been misdiagnosed and was actually suffering from lung cancer.

Following a revised treatment plan, Lundgren announced in 2024 that he was cancer-free. He has since returned to physical training and continues to work, emphasizing the importance of maintaining muscle mass and resilience as he ages.
