Dolphin found dead with shark bite marks in Marechal Deodoro
A female dolphin of the species Sotalia guianensis was found dead on the shore at Praia do Francês, located in Marechal Deodoro, within the Metropolitan Region of Maceió. The 1.85-meter-long animal exhibited marks consistent with shark bites.
The Institute of Biota Conservation (Biota) was called to the scene to collect the mammal. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, a necropsy could not be performed to definitively confirm the cause of death. Biota reported that there was no evidence of human interaction in the incident. Biological samples were collected for further analysis, and the body was subsequently buried by the local urban cleaning team.
