Dolphin Swimming League enters eighth season with record participation

The eighth season of the Dolphin Swimming League is set to begin on October 3 at Grange School in Ikeja, Lagos. The competition features a record 23 participating schools and swimming clubs, marking significant growth since its inception in 2018 with only five schools. For the first time, the league will include a team from Abuja, signaling an expansion beyond the Lagos region.

This season introduces technical advancements to improve officiating accuracy. The league will implement cameras and assisted timing devices to minimize human error in recording performances and determining race results. These updates follow an orientation clinic held at Rowe Park, Yaba, to train officials and coaches on updated World Aquatics regulations.

The league serves as a developmental platform for young Nigerian athletes, with several past participants progressing to represent the country in regional and international competitions. This season will feature separate categories for elementary and secondary school swimmers, with the opening weekend focused on elementary athletes across more than 30 events.
