Dolphins captured on drone footage near Playa del Carmen
A pair of dolphins and their calf were captured on drone footage swimming approximately 700 meters off the coast of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The sighting occurred on a Monday afternoon near Avenue 38.
The footage was recorded fortuitously by Luis David, owner of the drone video company Dron 28 Global, while he was performing aerial shots in the area. The dolphins were swimming south and were not noticed by swimmers or local workers on the beach at the time of the sighting.
According to the videographer, while such sightings are not common, they do occur a few times a year. The recording was aided by clear weather conditions and an absence of sargassum seaweed in the area, allowing for clear views of the marine life in the Caribbean Sea.
