Futuro Nazionale challenges Forza Italia in Calabria elections

The political landscape in Calabria is undergoing significant shifts as several politicians defect from Forza Italia to join Roberto Vannacci’s Futuro Nazionale party. A central development is the announcement that Domenico Giannetta, the current Forza Italia regional group leader, will run as the Futuro Nazionale candidate in the upcoming by-elections in Reggio Calabria scheduled for late September.

This move has triggered immediate political repercussions. Calabria Regional President Roberto Occhiuto has stated that Giannetta is now excluded from the regional center-right majority. Other political figures, including former mayor Roberto Senise, have also left Forza Italia, citing a need for a political project more aligned with their ideals regarding national identity, security, and family.

In Crotone, Mayor Vincenzo Voce has indicated he will not exclude councilors who have moved to Futuro Nazionale from his administrative majority, prioritizing the continuity of the local government program over party affiliations. Meanwhile, in Termoli, Nicola Di Toro has resigned from all Forza Italia positions to pursue a new political path focused on local territory.

In Rome, Vannacci is reportedly organizing a strategic event to present new arrivals to Futuro Nazionale, signaling the party's growing influence and its intent to challenge the established center-right coalition.
