Domenico Papalia buried in private ceremony in Platì

The remains of Domenico Papalia, a prominent 'Ndrangheta boss known as ‘Don Micu’, were interred in the municipal cemetery of Platì in the province of Reggio Calabria. The burial took place around 6:00 AM following a private ceremony.

To prevent public disturbances and maintain order, the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters had prohibited public funeral rites. Consequently, the event was held strictly privately, with approximately 40 law enforcement officers from the Carabinieri, Police, and Guardia di Finanza monitoring the area. Despite the restrictions, about 120 people, including relatives and acquaintances from Northern Italy and abroad, attended the service.

Papalia, who died on August 26 at the age of 91, had undergone an autopsy in Milan as ordered by prosecutor Alessandra Cerreti. Following judicial clearance, his body was transported from Milan to Platì under police escort. The brief 25-minute ceremony included prayers and songs before the remains were placed in the family chapel.
