Domestic accidents and falls pose significant health risks

Domestic accidents and falls can mask serious structural injuries that may take hours to manifest external symptoms. Experts warn against normalizing minor impacts, as internal traumas or non-displaced fractures can be difficult to distinguish from temporary muscle pain without medical evaluation.

According to the World Health Organization, falls are the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths globally, accounting for an estimated 684,000 to 700,000 deaths annually. In Brazil, data from the Unified Health System (SUS) indicates that domestic accidents and fall-related traumas result in over 100,000 hospitalizations each year, disproportionately affecting the elderly population.
