Domestic violence incidents reported in Portugal and France

Two separate incidents of fatal domestic violence have been reported in Portugal and France.

In Barbacena, Portugal, a man and a woman in their fifties were found dead in their home on October 13, 2026. Following reports of screaming from neighbors, the Guarda Nacional Republicana discovered the bodies. The woman had sustained fatal knife wounds, while the man was found in a garage or outbuilding. The Police Judiciaire is investigating the case as a homicide followed by a suicide.

In Lourdes, France, a 47-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment following a violent dispute with her partner. Authorities have arrested the man, who is suspected of killing her. Investigators noted that reports of domestic violence within the couple had been previously made to the authorities.
