Domestic violence reports rise in Bacău and Moldova

Domestic violence reports show significant activity in both Bacău, Romania, and Moldova. In Bacău, police recorded 4,246 interventions in 2025, averaging over 11 incidents per day. Cristina Breahnă-Pravăț, president of the Bacău County Council, reported that provisional protection orders rose to 917 in 2025, a nearly 60% increase from 575 in 2024. Approximately 31% of these orders utilized electronic monitoring of aggressors.

Data from DGASPC Bacău highlights challenges in victim support. While 455 cases were registered for counseling, only about 10% of individuals effectively utilized the services; 30% refused initially, and 60% expressed interest but failed to attend. Specialized services like the Artemis Center and Venus protected housing are available to victims.

In Moldova, police recorded 180 reports of family violence over a three-day period from September 18 to 20. During this timeframe, law enforcement intervened in every case, issuing 47 emergency restriction orders to protect victims.
