Domestic worker employment: contract changes and contribution deadlines
Employers of domestic workers, such as cleaners, caregivers, and babysitters, must adhere to specific administrative and legal procedures regarding contract changes and social security contributions.
When modifying working hours, employers should provide a formal written communication. This document should include the reason for the change, the new schedule, the effective date, and any applicable trial periods. To ensure legal protection and transparency, the letter should identify both parties and reference the existing contract. It is recommended to deliver this via registered mail, PEC, or in person to document the communication.
Regarding social security, employers must pay contributions for the third quarter (covering July, August, and September) between October 1 and October 10. For 2026, since October 10 falls on a Saturday, the deadline is extended to Monday, October 12. Contribution amounts are calculated based on hourly wages and adjusted for inflation. Failure to meet these deadlines may result in financial penalties from INPS.
